Catch of the Day
Portrait for the Shaffers

Often the ideas for my portraits are very spontaneous. For this painting, as the children were preparing to model, with no advance planning, I talked to them and their parents about their interests and hobbies. The boys said "fishing" and the girls said "mermaids". A beautiful portrait was born.

Portrait of
11 Grandchildren

This portrait of 11 grandchildren incorporated the most people I'd ever painted into one image before. It was a wonderful challenge. I created this portrait for John and Betty Maliszewisky.

Portrait for
the Garbus Family

I always ask people when commissioning a portrait if they have any ideas themselves as to what they want. Even the children are often consulted. The kids in this wanted to ride Orcas & Dolphins which is common, except this kid wanted to ride two, at a time! Not to argue with the child of a client I said "Sure, no problem" I'm always happy to take on a challenge though. Interestingly enough that's when I do my best work.

Portrait for
Mother & Child

The bond between a Mother and a Child is so strong...
It's as if the world is theirs alone!
(see the actual models below.)

Star War Portrait for the Olsen's

This portrait is one of my oldies, around 1985, but with Star Wars as its theme, can it ever be outdated?

Portrait for
Actor Leo Burmester

This portrait was done for the actor, Leo Burmester (The Abyss,) and is more than just a portrait of his family. It includes their cat, dog, house, dragonflies, and even their bees which Leo raises in his spare time.

Portrait for
Jennifer Dowling

There is often a fine line between my portraits, and my fine art gallery paintings. In fact, requests for portraits actually started from people seeing my own children featured in my paintings and asking the sales consultants "Can I commission Jim Warren to do a painting with my children in it ?" Very often my paintings tell a story personal to me, or in the case of a portrait, my client. In this case, this idea just came to me one day and seemed to fit my client well, although neither of us knew exactly why. Maybe you, the viewer, can figure the story.

Father Nature
Portrait for Ron King

"Father Nature" is a portrait and a message to all the dead beat fathers. One day I thought, "we know where Mother Nature is, where the hell is Father Nature?" Here he is, right where he belongs.
